Woman fractures spine in fall in Peak District

Two climbers in the same group both fell in separate accidents - with one fracturing her spine and the other fracturing his ankles.

Both casualties were climbing at Stanage Edge on Sunday afternoon.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team said the 58-year-old woman, who fractured her spine, fell around five metres and the 44-year-old man, who fractured his ankles, fell around eight metres.

Both injured climbers were taken by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.
