POLICE have launched an appeal following a serious assault in Sheffield city centre.

A man was injured following an attack yesterday morning near the corner of Carver Street and Division Street.

Police were called to a disturbance in the street near to Paris nightclub in the early hours. Paramedics also attended the scene and The Star understands he was taken to Northern General Hospital.

The area remained cordoned off and closed to the public yesterday morning as officers awaited the arrival of crime scene investigators.

Two people were detained by police.
