Windass goal seals £28,622 win from £1 bet
SHEFFIELD Wednesday's defeat at the hands of Hull City last Sunday has won one lucky punter more than £28,000.
Dean Windass's 33rd-minute winning goal helped the 45-year-old Surrey gambler strike gold – after correctly predicting the scores of 14 games.
The mystery William Hill client, from Bookham, turned his 1 stake into a 28,622 profit.
He had found 13 winners on Saturday by backing WBA, Tranmere, Dundee, East Fife, Doncaster, Millwall, Wycombe, Bristol City, Hamilton, Cardiff, Swansea, Chesterfield and Rotherham, which turned his pound into over 12,000. And the Crystal Palace fan's faith in the Tigers proved well-placed.
He has now ordered a Hull City shirt with Windass's name on the back.
William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "He stayed very calm, said he'd thought his luck was in, but that if Hull hadn't won he'd only have lost 1." The man, who works with animals, placed his bet in Hill's betting shop in Bookham, where he is a regular small-stakes gambler on most sports.
This is by far his biggest- ever win although he did once back golfer Angel Cabrera at 150/1 when he won a tournament.
