Weston Park Museum is celebrating the completion of a major redevelopment next Saturday - and The Star has a VIP family day prize for four people to give away.
Next Saturday, October 22, the museum is to hold an interactive birthday party from 11am to mark the end of a year-long programme of work, including new or transformed galleries which will be unveiled for the first time, as well as the tenth anniversary of the museum reopening in 2006.
There will be performances from Cabaret Boom Boom, music, treasure hunts, face painting, storytelling and creative sessions.
And one lucky winner from The Star’s competition will be able to experience the day in style - with a prize that includes early bird arrival from 9.30am, the first go on a brand new interactive Beat the Beast feature, a personal tour of new displays and galleries, lunch in Weston Park Museum café to the value of £50, a personalised plaque on the Weston Park Supporters Wall and a Snowy the Polar Bear gift pack for each child in the party.
Kirstie Hamilton, head of exhibitions and displays at Museums Sheffield, said: “The improvements we’ve made have allowed us to build on the museum’s fantastic successes to date, enabling us to share even more of the wonderful stories in Sheffield’s collections and provide an even richer experience.”
Improvements to the museum include a new Picturing Sheffield gallery with more than 60 scenes of the city dating from early 1800s to the present day, new displays in the What on Earth natural science gallery and Beneath Your Feet, a dazzling new showcase for the treasures in the city’s archaeology collection.
Rare specimens of endangered or extinct animals are also in the new display Going, going, gone.
The works have been made possible thanks to a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, support from trusts and foundations, and the generosity of visitors.
To enter the competition, email email@example.com with your name, contact number and address, and answer the following question: What is the name of the new interactive feature at the museum? The deadline for entries is Wednesday October 19 at noon. Normal Star rules apply.
