High-failure lollipop saplings, with a lifespan of 40-80 years, are not a gift to future generations. Neither is harvesting the trees of Sheffield to profit a private company.
What IS a gift to future generations, is the sustainable management of the green infrastructure already in place and flourishing.
All it needs is a will for tree retention. And we do mean a real will for tree retention, not the empty words of Coun Fox.
The SORT campaign have been asking for a relaxation of the kerb and pavement specifications Amey are currently working to, since May.
Such relaxation around trees on tree-lined streets, would allow many of the large crowned highway trees currently scheduled for felling due to ‘pavement ridging’, to be safely retained.
Why is Sheffield City Council dragging its heels on this?
