Wildlife trust to set up outdoor network for Sheffield teachers

The Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust, supported by Learn Sheffield, hopes to inspire teachers to get pupils learning outside the classroom.

At a launch event on Monday, they will get the chance to learn from schools already using the outdoors in their teaching, and to question the trust’s outdoor learning experts.

There will also be free information packs for those who sign up to the event in advance, full of inspiring ideas and practical tips to take back to the classroom.

As part of the event, the trust is calling for examples of best practice from teachers already doing great outdoor learning.

Outdoor learning team leader Chris Smith said: “The idea for the network has come from schools themselves, who regularly ask us for advice about outdoor learning or improving their school grounds.

"We want to empower teachers and leaders to make outdoor learning part of every day school life, and help them share ideas and advice with each other.”

The launch will take place at the Trust's headquarters at Victoria Hall, Stafford Road, from 4pm to 6pm on Monday.
