I was travelling into town on Middlewood Road and as I approached the ambulance station the red lights were flashing, and the traffic had stopped. No ambulance appeared and when the lights stopped flashing we continued on our way.
I thought maybe they have to test the lights every so often. The same day on my return I could see a first response ambulance approach the junction with his blue lights flashing. The first car stopped, but the car behind didn’t and swerved round the stationary car and carried on towards Oughtibridge.
Whether he was travelling too close or not paying attention, this was a potential accident. The ironic thing was that nobody had bothered to switch on the flashing red lights.
Why are they there if they are not going to be used when the occasion arises?
