With regard to the outcry/debate over the Rustlings Road trees and indeed all the other mature trees that line many of our suburban roads.
We mustn’t blame Amey – they are only the contractor – presumably working to specifications drawn up by Sheffield City Council, who contracted them.
Generally, they’re doing a great job on a long-term and city-wide maintenance and renewal contract.
The guidelines and remit given by SCC can’t be clear enough – Sheffield is the greenest European city, and proud of it.
SCC must scrutinise and review Amey’s contract in order to protect this green heritage, on behalf of the people of Sheffield, so as to ensure that the people’s wishes are met.
Sheffield councillors have an opportunity to do this tomorrow, when a full debate will take place.
They must be careful not to abdicate their public responsibilities.
They have this chance to do the right thing!
