Whirlow celebrating 30 years of fun on the farm - PICTURES
SHEFFIELD'S unique classroom in the countryside is officially 30 years old and what better way to celebrate than with a party down on the farm?
Whirlow Hall Farm Trust was founded in 1979 and has gone on to earn a special place in the hearts of Sheffielders.
Around 100 people, who have been involved with the farm since it opened, came together yesterday to mark the milestone.
Brightside MP David Blunkett, who was involved at the very beginning, spoke of his fondness for the charity and the important role it plays within Sheffield.
Pupils from Arbourthorne Primary School attended – they too have been visiting Whirlow since it first opened.
More than 250,000 children have visited Whirlow on a daily or residential basis in the last 30 years and the educational trust works with inner city children and young people with special needs or disabilities.
Volunteers at the farm provide an unforgettable experience for up to 10,000 children each year, offering a hands-on environment.
