What are these ghostly faces in the snow?

YOU may have heard of snow angels - but these look more like snow devils.

These weird indentations were made by Roger Doonan and his partner Georgina Wilson, from Lodge Moor.

Roger, aged 40, a lecturer in archaeology at Sheffield University explained how he made them in the snow while out in Derbyshire.

"We were walking on Stanage Edge when I dived in the snow and was shocked to see the impression I had made.

"We then pressed our faces in the snow to leave these amazing 3D images.

"They look as though they are sticking out from the snow but they are actually indentations. I've never seen anything like this before."

Roger said there was no trickery involved in the photos, which he took on a mobile phone.

"I suspect it was a fortunate combination of snow type and the bright light," he said.

"They are quite haunting and the weird thing is that when you walk away they seem to follow you with their faces.

"They look quite scary but I can assure everyone we don't actually look like that! My face is nowhere near that fat.

"I think it was due to the fact that our faces were sort of squidged into the snow drift."
