CALLS are being made for Rotherham Council to disclose the future of the listed Guest & Chrimes building next to the town’s new football stadium.
Rotherham District Civic Society have welcomed the choice of the name New York Stadium for Rotherham United’s new ground, but said: “We would now appreciate it if the club and council would come clean on the future of the Guest & Chrimes building.”
The factory, which was built in 1957, closed in 1999.
The society said: “The listed building stands out like a sore thumb between Riverside House and the emerging stadium. We believe most of the Guest & Chrimes building should be demolished, but that the facade should be incorporated into designs for either a car park or hotel, whichever is in the vision for the site.”
