BUSINESS leaders are being invited to debate whether an elected Mayor for Sheffield will be good for the region’s economy.
Cities Minister Greg Clark and Labour peer Lord Andrew Adonis from the Yes for Mayors campaign will attend the discussion at Kennedy’s Law, Ventana House, Sheaf Street, on Thursday from 4pm.
Delegates from the No to Mayors campaign will also attend the event.
Sheffield Chamber of Commerce is organising the debate for representatives of city firms to help inform members of the advantages and disadvantages of the proposals.
The public will vote on whether they wish to have a Mayor for Sheffield at the local elections on May 3.
Suzanne Liversidge, president of Sheffield Chamber, said: “It is clear our members and the wider business community need to debate the proposal in detail and to ensure a decision is reached which will benefit the wider business community. it is not for us to inform members which way they should vote. Instead we can only provide a platform for the facts to be aired, whether they be advantages or disadvantages.
“This event will provide an opportunity for Chamber members and the business community to have all the facts to allow an informed decision to be made.”
