Wednesday manager lends his support to family of missing jet ski ace

SHEFFIELD Wednesday manager Brian Laws has lent his support to the family and friends of missing South Yorkshire jet ski ace Jeremy Hoyland.

The Owls' boss met Jeremy's wife Jacqui and daughters Ellena, aged 13, and Georgia, 11, at Hillsborough Stadium to try to raise the profile of their battle to get the British authorities to do more to help.

He said: "I can only sympathise with Jacqui and her family because it is a terrible time for them as they wait for news of Jeremy.

"On behalf of Sheffield Wednesday I would like to express our best wishes to the family. We sincerely hope Jeremy is found in good health soon.

"I would also urge anybody who may be able to help the family in any way they can to do so, because the Hoylands need all the support they can get at this difficult time."

Jeremy, aged 41, a champion jetskier from Penistone, disappeared off the Indonesian island of Bali on October 24 as he brought up the rear of a pack of skiers making their way back to dry land.

He managed to make a mobile phone call to say he was having problems but, because none of the others in front of him turned around until they reached the island, they did not realise he had been left behind.

Daily searches, both on the water and from the air, have so far failed to locate Jeremy or his jetski but his friends and relatives refuse to give up hope.

They believe he may have made it onto one of hundreds of uninhabited islands dotted about the ocean.

A fund has been set up to pay for the search operation and Jeremy's wife has appealed to the British Government to offer advice and assistance.

She has also written to Prime Minster Gordon Brown to make him aware of her husband's plight.

Jeremy, who is known around the world for his involvement with jetskiing, had been invited to Bali to be a race director as part of the Asian Beach Games.
