A NEWLY-married sailor from Doncaster has graduated from The University of Portsmouth with a degree in Electrical Engineering, so he can begin officer training in September at Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.
Petty Officer David Tinsley, aged 26, a Weapons Engineering specialist, joined the Royal Navy in 2002 as an Artificer, studying towards a Foundation Degree in Engineering.
Following success at the Navy’s rigorous officer selection process, he landed a coveted place on a one-year academic course which allows his degree to be upgraded to a full BSc/BEng (Hons) degree.
The former Hall Cross School pupil said: “Completing this degree course has given me a major opportunity to further my career as a commissioned officer in the Navy.”
He has a three-year-old daughter, Connie Jo, and married his partner, Louise Slater, last month.
