Gritters will be working overnight ahead of snow and icy conditions that are expected to hit Sheffield in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
Freezing temperatures and wintry showers, including isolated snowfall, have been forecast on high ground later this evening.
Amey, the Streets Ahead contractor, has confirmed its teams will be out to deliver precautionary gritting.
A spokesman said: “Our weather forecasting systems have predicted that we can expect freezing temperatures and a light dusting of snow on high ground.
“The team are ready for this and will be gritting on high ground from 1am tomorrow and gritters will be out on higher ground from 6am ready to clear any snow that might have settled.
“We will continue to monitor the situation overnight and if other routes require gritting we will act accordingly.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice overnight and have said the public should be aware of the risk of disruption to transport.
A day of sunny intervals and scattered wintry showers will follow on Tuesday.
Further weather warnings have been issued for Wednesday and Thursday when heavy rain and gale force winds are set to return.
