South Yorkshire has been issued with an amber severe weather alert as cold weather and icy conditions strike.
The cold weather alert means ‘severe weather action’ is expected and high risk groups, such as the sick and elderly, need to be safe.
The Met Office predicts a 90 per cent probability of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow in the Yorkshire and Humber region all week.
A spokesman said: “This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.”
Temperatures tonight are set to dip to minus 1C in Sheffield and are not expected to rise above 4C all week.
