THE A628 Woodhead Pass has been closed in both directions to all vehicles because of wind speed gusts of up to 60mph.
Motorists have been stopped from using the cross-Pennine route between the A616 and the A57.
The A66 between the A1(M) and the M6 is closed to high sided vehicles because of the winds.
A Highways Agency spokesman said: “Although we don;t have an amber wind alert in place across the region - the North West, North East and Yorkshire and the Humber - today, we are experiencing very high gusts in places.
“For safety reasons the A628 Woodhead Pass between the A616 and A57 has been closed in both directions to all traffic due to wind speeds gusting around 60mph.”
