David Cameron announced that the UK would take 200,000 refugees over the course of this parliament, but the scale of the refugee crisis demands we must do more, and we must do it now.
The UK has the means and the capacity to support many more families fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries.
Crises are the time to ask whether all the talk of our values is face-saving rhetoric, or an opportunity to demonstrate what is best in our natures.
I think the British people are well ahead of our leaders in this regard.
We want to do more for those currently suffering needlessly, and we wish to help them now.
Our local councils should publicly announce that we are ready and willing to accept more refugees than the Conservative government would like us to.
