CREATIVE youngsters were able to see their hard work bear fruit - in the form of a giant piece of artwork called Apple.

Pupils from Newbold Church of England Primary School in Chesterfield and service users at Pine Bank, a day centre for people with learning disabilities in the town were asked to come up with designs which have been incorporated into a sculpture.

The result is a spectacular 5.5m stainless steel and bronze silhouette frame of an apple, created by Doncaster-based artist Michael Johnson, which includes bronze decorative inserts depicting the schoolchildren and disabled people’s designs.

Michael added further images of the original glass and pottery works from the area into the piece which stands outside the new Tesco Extra store on the former Dema Glass site, next to Chesterfield FC’s B2Net stadium.
