We need you on our team, say youngsters

THESE budding Beckhams could be training for nothing if they're booted out of their football league - but they're hoping for a miracle.

Norton Lees under nines football team members are searching desperately for the four extra players they need to be allowed to stay in their league.

The lads only have until this Sunday to make up the numbers that will let them stay in the Sheffield and Hallamshire division.

Bev Chapman, whose son Seth, eight, has just joined the team, said: "He's absolutely desperate to play. When the manager told them on Wednesday they might not be able to, they were in tears."

The club has been in existence for just longer than each of its members has been alive, having been running for over 10 years.

But if it doesn't get new players in the next two days it will not be able to carry on.

Team coach Glyn Radford took over the team just weeks ago and said: "If we don't get into the league I suppose we'd have to just train but with nothing to look forward to at the weekend.

"Then the boys would lose interest and stop coming.

"It's going to be tough to find more players but we're going to give it a good shot."

Parents and children have been taking posters and letters into their schools to try to recruit before the deadline.

The team has lost 16 players from last season after some lads lost interest in playing and others moved to other clubs.

The boys train from 6pm to 7pm every Wednesday in Graves Park, near the cricket pavilion.

Call Glyn urgently on 07934 232343.
