We need to sell Sheffield on an international stage

Have your say

I am writing in response to the article ‘Critics say trip to Riviera is a jolly’ ( Monday, March 10).

I find it unbelievable that the Taxpayers’ Alliance thinks that spending circa £5,000 to get Sheffield in front of over 4,000 investors is a waste of money.

The time is right for us to be at MIPIM.

We are there to sell Sheffield on the international stage and attract investment to be ploughed in to the city – simple as that.

The Star recently made a strong case that we need to be selling Sheffield – and we agree. We can’t sell the city in a global economy by sitting at home waiting for investors to come to us. Other big UK cities are out there and it’s vital Sheffield is too.

MIPIM is a once-a- year opportunity and we have a once-in-a-lifetime proposal, to deliver a new generation city centre.

There is no other place where we can stand in front of over 4,000 investors and sell Sheffield on the world stage.

Sheffield City Region will be in front of a potential audience of 20,000, including 4,300 investors, 3,000 CEOs and chairmen and 460 journalists – from 80 countries across the world.

This is the best-value way of showcasing the city to our target market, so that we can attract investment to our city which translates into growth for our economy and jobs for local people.
