A CORRESPONDENT recently accused the coalition of wanting to gerrymander electoral boundaries to favour themselves.
What is perhaps not generally known is that current electoral boundaries have favoured Labour to the tune of 5 to 7 per cent over the last few decades. On a level playing field the Tories would possibly have won a working majority at the last election and therefore have a true mandate to govern.
It is understandable why Labour did nothing to rectify this imbalance during their 13 years in power.
What we all want is a voting system as fair as possible. But, like your correspondent, I am not sure that AV will be better than first past the post.
