SOME people get lyrical after a few drinks and Robin Byles can help them to remember the words.
Robin won a contest to design beermats with a local theme after hitting on the idea of printing them with lyrics written by famous Sheffield bands.
Robin’s entry to the contest, designed to promote Sheffield’s forthcoming Sensoria cultural festival, was voted best by a panel including Heaven 17’s Martyn Ware, Sensoria’s director Jo Wingate, Thornbridge Brewery’s Alex Buchanan and Pam Bowman from Sheffield Hallam University.
Robin’s win was announced at the recently-refurbished and renamed Greystones pub on Greystones Road.
Alex said: “Despite strong competition we were quite taken with Robin’s design. There was a great deal of thought behind the choice of lyrics and the design concept. It was exciting to see such a strongly thought-through design from a member of the public.”
Runner-up was Alan Silvester and Mitchell Robinson was voted the best student entry.
