IT’S back with a splash - and organisers hope it will go like a bomb!
The World Water Bombing Championships, now in its eighth year, is returning to Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Olympic sized swimming pool next month.
Macmillan Cancer Support fundraisers are now looking for teams of four daredevils to sign up, get dressed up, and then climb up the steps to the pool’s highest diving boards - and throw themselves off to raise vital funds for the fights against cancer.
This year’s event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, promises to be the biggest, wettest, and splashiest yet.
Rob Turner, the charity’s Sheffield fundraising manager, said: “Some of the ideas teams have already come up with for costumes need to be seen to be believed!”
Teams already signed up include The Dead Ringers, The Four Horsemen - and reigning champions Fat Boys World Water Bombing Champs.
Teams are graded by a panel of light-hearted judges based on style of jump, the size of their splash and presentation.
The judging panel will include two Macmillan nurses and a mystery celebrity guest yet to be announced.
And if you don’t fancy getting wet spectators can attend to lend their support at the pool-side.
Registration costs £20 for a team, with each group asked to raise a minimum of £376 sponsorship . The sum is enough to fund two Macmillan nurses for a day, giving vital help and support in Sheffield.
Spectators who don’t fancy flinging themselves off the diving platforms can watch for a suggested donation of £2 to Macmillan.
To register, call Andrea Longden on 07905 327 242 or email email@example.com
Teams members must be aged 18 and over.
