BE on your guard for a loan scam which is targeting South Yorkshire households is the warning from police.
South Yorkshire Police say they are receiving a number of reports of an alleged fraud involving UKASH vouchers.
The scam involves members of the public applying on-line for loans, being contacted by a fake loan company advising them that they will loan any amount of money, if the customer simply purchases a UKASH voucher as payment to cover administration costs.
Victims are asked to buy the voucher from a UKASH outlet and give the 19-digit voucher code to the offenders.
The vouchers are then cashed without any loan being paid out.
PC Andy Woodruff said: “We ask the public, particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable, to be on their guard and ensure they do not fall prey to these scams.”
