RESIDENTS are being urged to be extra vigilant after two suspicious incidents in the village of Tupton near Chesterfield.
In the first, a 79-year-old man was approached by a stranger on Riber Crescent, Old Tupton, who asked for directions to a street that does not exist. The man then reached out and touched the pensioner’s jacket.
In the second, an 89-year-old woman heard a knock on her door in Riber Crescent but did not answer. She was told there was a parcel for her and told the callers to leave it on her step. When she looked there was nothing there.
Pc Adam Bryan, of Clay Cross Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The elderly woman did the right thing by not answering the door to an unexpected caller.
“We urge everyone in the area to remain vigilant when dealing with cold callers.”
The incidents happened on January 19 and 21.
