COUNCIL officers have warned South Yorkshire residents to beware fraudsters posing as census officials.
Rotherham Council has issued a warning about scammers who knock on doors insisting they need financial details.
Every household in the country was meant to complete their census questionnaire on March 27 and officials will be knocking on doors if anyone has not sent their form back.
But officers will always present formal ID and will never ask about personal finance.
Coun Paul Bettison, national chairman of Local Government Regulation, said: “Fraudsters are known to take advantage of any situation.
“If they can make money from it, then they will give it a go.”
