Chapeltown residents are being urged to be on their guard against bogus callers while workmen are in the town.
Balfour Beatty started water mains improvement work in Chapeltown on behalf of Yorkshire Water in August and will be working for another three weeks.
Neither Yorkshire Water nor Balfour Beatty employees anticipate needing access to properties while the work is carried out, so residents are warned to be on their guard if they’re approached by strangers claiming they need to be allowed in.
The warning was issued after bogus callers, claiming to work Balfour Beatty attempted to gain access to a garage.
Employees of both companies carry identity cards which can be checked by telephoning 0800 1 38 78 78.
