CAR owners in a South Yorkshire village have been warned by police to be on the alert for thieves stealing from vehicles after a spate of thefts.
And Treeton Parish Council was told thieves are travelling from as far away as the east coast to target cars in the village for break-ins.
Police told the parish council most of the thefts were in the early hours and motorists should make sure their vehicles were locked and no expensive articles were left in them.
Coun Richard Baker said some thieves were coming from as far away as Hull to target cars especially on the new 500-house estate built on the site of Treeton Colliery.
He said: “They think people on the new estate are well off with expensive cars and Treeton has become a magnet for these people.”
