British Transport Police detectives are investigating after a teenager was sexually assaulted on a train between Sheffield and Rotherham.

A spokesman said the woman was assaulted on the train as it travelled between Sheffield and Rotherham stations.

Detective Constable Ian Grice said: “The victim, an 18-year-old woman from Doncaster, was standing at Sheffield station when she noticed a man staring at her.

“As the Doncaster-bound train arrived around 2.50pm, she boarded it, with the man following, uncomfortably close behind her.

“During the journey, he sat next to her before touching her several times inappropriately.

“As the train arrived into Rotherham Central station, the man got up to leave the train, at which point the victim carried on to Doncaster where she alerted police.”

Detectives want to speak to the man pictured.
