GRATEFUL parents often pull out all the stops to thank The Children’s Hospital.
But now they can really go the extra mile - over hot coals, that is.
A Sheffield women’s networking group is looking for people brave enough to take part in a firewalk challenge for the city hospital.
Mum’s the Boss South Yorkshire has taken on the Mistress Cutler Challenge to raise £5,000 for the Make it Better Campaign.
The first event is a Blaze Firewalk Challenge on Saturday, April 20, at Godfrey’s Garden Centre, Aston.
Those who take part will be given coaching before they walk on hot coals for a distance of around eight feet.
Mum-of-two Elaine Mitchell, a group leader, said: “I have done a firewalk previously so understand the challenge involved.
“Was I nervous? yes! Was I scared I was going to get burned? yes! But once I had undergone the coaching I was raring to go, and I truly believe overcoming my fear had a lasting impact on my life.
“It was a personal challenge which I overcame but if I’m ever having a moment of self-doubt I remind myself of the firewalk and that I can achieve things I previously thought impossible.
“The fun day and firewalk will be an incredible event, and will offer the opportunity for people to not only take on a personal challenge but at the same time raise vital funds for such a worthy cause.”
Mum’s the Boss South Yorkshire hosts meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at Norfolk Park Centre and the fourth Thursday of the month at Kidz Kingdom, Carley Drive, Sheffield.
Anybody aged over 14 can take part in the firewalk although consent is required for under-18s.
It costs £30 and £50 in sponsor money must also be raised to take part.
