A SPONSORED walk in aid of the Help for Heroes charity is to take place along the Chesterfield Canal on Saturday, June 2.
The event called Sgt Snooks’ Cuckoo Walk is the brainchild of ex-serviceman James Rowlands.
It will begin at Misterton near Gainsborough, finishing at Kiveton Park 35 miles away.
Members of the armed forces will be among those taking part, while others will complete part of the route as part of a relay team.
There will be refreshment spots and collection buckets along the route on the Retford and Worksop town centre canal banks.
Also involved in the event are another ex-serviceman Steve Plows from Maltby and the local county representative for Help For Heroes, David Blackburn of the Chesterfield Canal Trust.
The walk is due to begin at 8am and it expected most people will complete the route between 5pm and 6pm.
Sponsor forms are available from Dinnington Snooker Club, from the off licence on Lordens Hill that was formerly Bargain Booze and in Rotherham from Lifeline at Milton House on Sheffield Road and the Bow Bridge Project at St Anne’s near the town centre.
