THE chips are down – and now is the time to wrap up this contest.
We have received hundreds of nominations for more than 50 different chippies across South Yorkshire after launching a search to find the region’s top chip shop.
Voting is now open for the 54 different chip shops nominated by our readers as we whittle them down to just six finalists. The six securing the most votes will be visited by our judges, who will crown The Star’s top chippy.
Nominees include Marishells Chippy, St Marys Lane, Ecclesfield, and Woody’s Fish & Chips, Weetshaw Close, Shafton.
Kandy Jenkinson emailed to nominate Marishells.
She said: “If you have just a fish or a fishcake they always put a few chips on which is nice.
“They are always friendly and spotlessly clean – a top chippy.”
Adele Hunton, senior life skills co-ordinator at Dearnevale Care Home, Grimethorpe, nominated Woody’s, saying: “Not only are their fish and chips amazing, they go the extra mile for us.
“We are a care home in the next village and often have a fish and chip day.
“We phone Woody’s and place our order for 70 to 80 lots of fish and chips.
“They always meet our needs and our service users and staff enjoy the fish and chips very much, hence us returning time and time again.”
