Members of Sheffield City Knights Project enjoyed tea with the outgoing Lord Mayor of the city to celebrate its success.

The event, with Coun Vickie Priestley, also gave them the chance to say a fond farewell to Dave Powell, the organisation’s outgoing chairman.

Paul Marsden, group treasure, said volunteers had worked hard over the past two years to ensure the project’s survival following the sudden death of its founder Eddie Edwards.

Eddie passed away in 2012 after 16 years involvement with the City Knights and since then Dave continue to volunteer for the a sports and social project for adults with disabilities, despite having a full-time job and studying for a degree.

Mr Marsden said: “Volunteers have worked hard over the past two years to ensure the project’s survival.”

“This would not have been possible without the unconditional support, expertise, dedication and kindness of Dave.

“Although Dave is a full-time specialist teacher, and was in the final years of a degree that will allow him to work internationally in developing countries, he still volunteered his time because of his deep belief in the ethos of the club.”
