THE gilt is gleaming and the parquet’s polished as Chatsworth House opens its doors to visitors for a new season.
Changes this year include restored guest bedrooms, guides in period costume, and two ‘favourite things’ collections of display pieces chosen personally by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
From the end of May there will be a fresh look at the life of the sixth Duke, who made huge changes at Chatsworth in the 1820s and 1830s.
The current Duke said he hoped the new attractions would entice visitors. “Another reason for people to say, ‘Oh, instead of going shopping on Saturday, let’s go to Chatsworth’,” he said.
