PEOPLE wanting to pay tribute to relatives or friends killed serving their country can plant a ‘virtual poppy’ on the Royal British Legion’s website.
The organisation is urging people to go online and show their respects.
The virtual poppy scheme is being backed by South Yorkshire councils and veterans’ groups.
Barnsley’s Mayor Coun Dorothy Higginbottom, and Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis, are visiting the town’s Central Library to go on the internet and plant virtual poppies on Friday, October 26, when the Poppy Appeal is launched.
Visit the Royal British Legion website www.britishlegion.org.uk/remembrance to plant your own.
