TWO South Yorkshire country houses are reviving their famous rivalry - Sunday, August 7 - when vintage motoring enthusiasts run a rally between the estates.
Almost Almost 100 vehicles are expected to take part in the Wentworth Rivals Car Rally, between Rotherham’s Wentworth Woodhouse and Wentworth Castle in Barnsley.
Vehicles will start to arrive at Wentworth Castle Gardens from around 10.30am, and will then be on view until 4pm.
Apart from a large selection of Austin cars, visitors can expect to see Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Wolseley and Rolls Royce cars, as well as tractors, engines and motorbikes.
A replica of Steve McQueen’s Triumph 5TA bike - as seen in The Great Escape - will be on show alongside a Daimler V8 used in Heartbeat. An 18-piece big band will play.
The estates were historically owned by two branches of the Wentworth family, who became bitter rivals following a dispute and tried to outdo each other with their lavish buildings.
