Village's fundraiser is one to 'crow about... PICTURES

STONE the crows!

Millhouse Green was a scary place to be at the weekend... especially if you were a crow.

The population of the South Yorkshire village, just outside Penistone, went up by 24 on Saturday when life-size scarecrows were hidden away in gardens for people to find as part of a fundraising trail.

The event was organised by the Millhouse Green and Thurlstone Women's Institute to raise money for two local music groups – Millhouse Male Voice Choir and Thurlstone Brass Band.

Leaflets for the scarecrow trail cost 1 and refreshments were on sale in the village – raising a total of 600. Last year the scarecrow trail raised 900 for three local churches.

WI member Anne Pearson said: "The event was a huge success – lots of people from the village got involved and made scarecrows for their gardens."
