Run for your lives – Doncaster has suffered a blood-curdling invasion of killer zombies...and no-one was safe from their clutches.
Cusworth Hall staged its very own chilling night of the living dead as more than 50 zombies attempted to hunt down a fearless collection of brave runners, prepared to do battle with the undead in the historic building’s grounds.
It might all sound like something out of a horror film – but visitors to Cusworth last Friday night were able to enjoy (or endure!) a real fright night.
The fun challenge saw more than 400 people of all ages tackling a 5km obstacle course, all the time attempting to flee from costumed actors dressed up as zombies.
And organiser Gary Crompton, who has staged similar events, was delighted at the turnout for a spook-tacular night of ghoulish goings-on that quite literally had people running for their lives.
He said: “These kind of events started in America and have spread over here and have become very popular.
“It wasn’t about making it around the course in the fastest time – it was all about escaping the zombie apocalypse.
“The grounds of the park were absolutely infested with zombies and runners had to try and avoid being caught. It was all a bit of fun for Halloween and we enjoyed a very good turnout.”
All places for the run were booked up in advance, with people from 10 to 70 taking part – cheered on by crowds watched the fun unfold as darkness fell.
The first set of runners set off from outside the hall against a backdrop of live music, food and drink and stalls.
Mr Crompton added: “I think people had a lot of fun – hopefully we made one or two people jump along the way.”
The fun continued on Saturday and Sunday with The Haunting of the Hall, when visitors were able to take part in a live action walk through story entitled The House Of The Dolls, which saw more costumed actors putting the wind up those taking part.
