Youngsters at a Sheffield shopping outlet got the chance to get hands on with cooking and baking.

S&J’s Pantry at the new Moor Market held two sessions for kids to see how to make jam tarts and savoury treats.

Youngsters were given the chance to help roll dough, cut out tart bases and spread jam filling, as well as see the tasty treats being cooked.

Susannah Youdan, owner of S&J’s Pantry, said the cooking demos have been warmly received by shoppers.

She said: “It shows children how they can bake simple things at home without complicated ingredients, things which are healthy and tasty, that they can make for themselves.

“We couldn’t have done this in the old market – there wasn’t the space and the layout, and it wasn’t clean enough.”

Mum Stacey Alderson, aged 24, brought four-year-old Allanah and two-year-old Hayden to see the demonstration.

She said: “It was really good. Allanah loves anything to do with cooking.

“If it wasn’t for this we would be sitting at home being bored.”

Ms Youdan said the market has begun to attract tourists since the Tour de France, adding: “People are coming to Sheffield for the culture of the city, for the cinemas, the Botanical Gardens, and now the Moor Market.

“Customers have come in and said, ‘Why can’t we have something like this in our city?’.”
