Motorists in Doncaster are being warned of disruption when one of the town’s key routes closes next week for major repair works.
St George’s Bridge will be shut for up to twenty nights over the next four months while a complete overhaul of the carriageway is carried out.
The bridge, which was opened to motorists in 2001 to relieve pressure on North Bridge, is the major route into the town centre from the north of town with thousands of drivers from places such as Bentley, Scawsby, Woodlands and Sprotbrough using the road each day.
Signs have been erected warning of potential problems for drivers, with the work due to start next Monday, May 18.
The work is scheduled to last for 17 weeks with the road closed for up to twenty nights between 7.30pm and 6am on selected dates.
North Bridge is currently only completely open to motorists heading out of Doncaster with the inbound route restricted to taxis and buses.
