Sheffield sports presenter Charlie Webster is throwing her support behind next month’s Great Yorkshire Run.

The TV anchor, best known for her work on Sky Sports News, will be taking part in the 10km run in Sheffield as a Blade runner – representing her beloved Sheffield United and fundraising for a local charity.

Runners will head from the city centre towards Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough Stadium and back.

Former Tapton School pupil Charlie, aged 31, speaking at the race’s official launch at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium yesterday, said: “I jumped at the chance to do the Great Yorkshire Run.

“I was brought up here and United is a club I love.

“I’ve been coming to Bramall Lane since I was four and want to inspire the community through health and fitness. I want to work with and support a local charity – so one here in Sheffield, a Yorkshire-based one.

“The Great Yorkshire Run puts Sheffield on the map and also inspires people.

“When we saw the Tour de France in the county I was so proud to be from Yorkshire. So many people got behind it – millions and millions. I rode some of the Tour de France route and it was just incredible.

“It shows off how much we actually have here both in the city and the countryside .

“To have the Great Yorkshire Run in the city gets the community involved.

“It’s important to engage the community and get everybody running and feeling fit. Having the chance to do that through a race is amazing.”

The Great Yorkshire Run will take place on Sunday, September 28. For details, visit
