It’s a case of hair today, gone tomorrow for Sheffield Steelers fan Rosemary Wilcockson; and she hasn’t been tearing it out after Steelers’ late collapse against Coventry at the weekend.

Instead, Rosemary has been adjusting to life without her locks after being sponsored to shave it all off, in honour of her pal Amy Usher.

Amy has liposarcoma, a rare and incurable throat cancer which she contracted at the age of 18. And Rosemary’s efforts have so far raised £1,357 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity - smashing her initial target of £200!

“Amy is a big fan of the Steelers, too, and so that’s how we met,” Rosemary said.

“I’m a 50/50 seller for the Steelers, and am friends with one of the guys who does the charity work for them.

“So I asked him if there was anyway I could do a charity head shave for Amy and Weston Park.”

Rosemary lost her locks before the game against Coventry last month, with Steelers stars Robert Dowd and Jason Hewitt doing the honours.

“I have donated my hair to the Little Princess Trust so that they can make a wig out of it,” Rosemary added.

“Amy’s bravery and strength through everything has been inspiring and she brings out the best in everyone she meets.

“Even when she’s got her own stuff to deal with, she’s the one to make sure everyone else is OK and it was an honour to do this.”
