The murder victim who died after a Sheffield gun attack today has been named locally as Grant Bodell.
Police found the 23-year-old wounded on waste land off Queen Mary Road in the Manor area at around 2.20am today - and have now launched a murder investigation.
Neighbours living near the scene said they had heard two gunshots around 2am and had seen police helicopters in the area.
One woman, a friend of Grant’s who did not want to be named, told The Star he was a father to two little girls.
She said: “I know all the family and I think he has been mixed up in something because he was a good lad. Everyone knows him around here.
“One of his little girls is about three, the other one one and he had a nice young girlfriend.
“It’s not nice to have this in your area - we were out in the garden last night and what if it had happened then?”
Forensics experts were still examining the scene - and several streets nearby are cordoned off by police tape - this afternoon.
Seven police vehicles, including a major incident unit and police dogs team, as well as officers were in the area as investigations continued.
A spokesman said the victim was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after emergency services were called at 2.20am,
He died a short time later.
Tributes have been paid to Grant online.
Jodie Woodward wrote on The Star’s Facebook page: “RIP Grant my thoughts are with your girlfriend and kids. What is this world coming to? I can’t imagine what they are going through.”
Witnesses, or anyone with information, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 166 of 21 June 2014.
