Santa and his magical helpers led a parade through Meadowhall to kick-off the festive season in Sheffield officially.
Santa’s sleigh made its way through the centre, with an entourage of elves and creatures from a winter wonderland, before heading to the spectacular ‘Magical Kingdom’.
Families following the parade were treated to a tour of Meadowhall’s twinkly indoor Christmas lights, before catching their first glimpse of the grotto, just outside the Oasis dining quarter.
“This is a really exciting night for us,” events manager Alex Caley told The Star.
“We’re so proud of the grotto, it’s spectacular - like nothing you’ve ever seen before - with magical light shows and little animated creatures everywhere inside.
“This is going to be a real Christmas to remember.”
The Magical Kingdom stands at an incredible 20 metres tall and has been bespoke-designed with a ‘sparkling gem mine’ theme, complete with a Disney-inspired colour-changing light show every 20 minutes.
Alex added: “We started thinking about Christmas back in May, and our incredible team has been working day and night for the past week pulling this all together. We’re so thrilled with the result. We just hope Sheffield families love it as much as we do!”
Visitors will enter the glittering gem cave where they will meet Santa’s elves and try their luck on the ‘good-o-meter’ before meeting up with Santa and receiving their first Christmas present.
Penelope Stuart, aged 10, said: “It’s really pretty, with candy canes everywhere, a Christmas tree and a fireplace. And lots of presents!”
