The Duke of Kent officially opened Rotherham United’s New York Stadium yesterday.
As part of a visit to the area, the royal unveiled a commemorative plaque next to the pitch and was given a tour of the community stadium by honorary ambassador Howard Webb.
Millers Chairman Tony Stewart said: “He showed a great interest as he was told about the activities that take place here.
“He got the message that this is more than a football stadium.”
As well as the football club, the Duke visited the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ nature reserve at Old Moor, ASOS and Kostal Ltd.
