Nude runners braved the elements and bared all for a good cause at a South Yorkshire visitor attraction last night.

The half-mile naked dash around Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster aimed to boost the park’s innovative Project Polar campaign.

A group of 43 hardy fundraisers were sponsored to get starkers and complete a short streak around the park, which has two polar bears called Victor and Pixel.

The park is at the forefront of the conservation efforts for the world’s largest carnivores through the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Cheryl Williams, director, said it was hoped that £10,000 would be raised from the event.

She added: “It was good that it was a warm evening!

“The runners did go past our polar bears, they were surprised to see people at that time in the evening.

“Quite a few of the people there had done it before, one man had been to London Zoo for a similar event and said he really enjoyed the park here.

“They were encouraging us to do it again next year and we are hoping to do so.”

The first ever Bare All for Polar Bears was open to over 18s only.

It was the idea of British Naturism and was in a restricted area of the park, with the only spectators will be friends and family of those who dare to bare.

Andrew Welch, of British Naturism, said: “We are delighted to have been asked to be involved with this fantastic event, not only for such a good cause, but at such a well-known and popular tourist attraction.

“Nude events in ‘public’ locations are on the increase with members of the public realising what fun it is and how good being naked in the open air feels.”

Big-hearted people who prefer to keep their clothes on can take part in a different fundraising drive for the polar bear project.
