VIDEO: Man dies as lorry crashes into wall in Sheffield

A lorry driver has died after crashing into a wall in Sheffield.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident in Fulwood Road, close to the junction with Woodvale Road, Fulwood, at 7.15am today.

The 58-year-old lorry driver was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

He was driving a silver and grey Mercedes Sprinter flatbed lorry along Fulwood Road towards the city centre, when he has collided with a stone wall.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision in Fulwood Road, Sheffield at about 7.15am this morning."It is reported that a Mercedes lorry had collided with a wall close to the junction with Woodvale Road. "The man driving the lorry was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after. ""Drivers are asked to avoid the area and plan alternative routes where possible."

Fulwood Road was closed earlier while emergency services dealt with the incident and its aftermath but it has now re-opened.

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
