A man has died after a three car smash on a busy Doncaster Road.

It is understood the 65-year-old driver fell ill at the wheel before the collision on Cantley Lane at 10.35am today (Monday January 12).

A 65-year-old woman, who was a passenger in his car was also taken to hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

The road, near the junction of Ascot Avenue was closed for several hours this morning as police carried out investigations into the collision.

A police spokesman said: “A 65-year-old man driving a blue Renault Kangoo is believed to have fallen ill at the wheel.

“There was a collision with the Renault and two other vehicles before the car collided with street furniture.

“The driver and a 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car were both taken to hospital.

“Sadly the man was pronounced deceased on arrival at hospital. The woman is being treated for serious injuries.”

A silver Rover and blue Van were also involved in the incident,

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 262 of 12 January 2015.
