A number of homes on a residential street have been evacuated this afternoon, as firefighters attempt to tackle a blaze that has broken out at a Sheffield property.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to a property in Sturton Road, Pitsmoor at around 3.15pm.

The fire is believed to have originated in the roof of the house, and a SYFR spokesman confirmed that a number of properties on either side of the property have been evacuated as a precaution while work to extinguish the fire continues.

They said: "Everyone is believed to have got out of the house and adjoining properties safely."

A total of two appliances from Sheffield Central Fire Station have been sent out to the scene of the fire, and a turntable appliance is believed to be on its way.
